Home of the Brave

Click the link to an online video review of the film Home of the Brave.  I caught the film on Starz or HBO or Cinemax or one of the many HD movie channels I get on DirecTV. It does have a bit of a tv movie feel to it, but I found it a much better film than the similar "Stop Loss," which was heavily promoted and received a wide release earlier this year. Films about the Iraq war have had nothing but trouble at the box office and this one barely saw a theatrical release, in fact I thought it was straight to video. Directed by Irwin Winkler who is better known as a legendary producer and while a somewhat experienced director he is not exactly visionary. While Sam Jackson gives a typical great performance and Jessica Biel is hot and not bad, a little better casting, some script doctoring and a better director could have really made this an excellent film.

It is still most definitely worth watching as a solid commentary on the Iraq war that is not overly biased in one way and shows several sides. It has it's cliched moments and as I stated has a tv movie feel to it at times, but if you have an hour and 45 minutes to kill you could do worse.
